Dolly sheep – domestic sheep, is the first animal in the world cloned from somatic cells of an adult individual by means of cell nucleus transfer.

This was done by scientists from the Roslin Institute in Scotland (Ian Wilmut and Keith Campbell and their team).

Dolly the sheep was born on July 5, 1996 and lived over 6.5 years (until February 14, 2003).

1. Dolly the sheep had 3 mothers: one provided an egg, one provided DNA, the third gave birth to a cloned embryo.

2. She grew up together with a Welsh mountain ram. She gave birth to 6 lambs.

4. In 1996, 277 attempts were made to clone sheep. Only Dolly survived to adulthood.

5. The existence of Dolly the sheep was announced to the public on February 22, 1997. She immediately became the most famous sheep in the world.
