The company was founded in 1969 in San Francisco (United States) by three friends of Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillblom and Robert Lynn.

10. On November 22, 2003, a DHL plane was hit in the wing by Iraqi insurgents with a SA-7 missile. Despite the blockage of three hydraulic systems, the pilots managed to land safely only thanks to the engine thrust adjustment.

11. On March 18, 2010, after a failure of one engine and problems with the landing gear, the DHL plane landed on the frozen lake Ülemiste (Estonia).

12. On November 8, 2004, DHL purchased the majority of shares in the Indian courier company Blue Dart for EUR 120 million.
